Honestly, it was just alright, a solid 3.5 stars rounded up to four. Food: New York Strip Steak, BBQ Baked Beans, Fried Ribs I am not a huge steak eater, but the New York Strip is my usual go-to. The steak was cooked just as I had requested and was a good portion. It neither blew me away with how good it was or disappointed me, it was honestly just a good average steak that filled me. I did order some BBQ baked beans on the side which were pretty good actually. They were sweet, tangy, and a very generous portion. Someone in my group ordered the fried ribs. It is just deep fried pork, similar to Carnitas. Restaruant: As someone who had never been to the Strat before, finding the restaurant was a little confusing. We had to stop and ask a worker to point us in the right direction. All the signs were for the Top of the World restaurant. Inside it was dimly lit, and only had about 3-4 other tables being occupied (on a Friday night). Our server was attentive, and constantly refilling our drinks. Notes: Our group of nine had a bill that was about $650-700. There was not alcohol ordered at our table.
Menu is very small and I think they change items on it often? A lot of the food photos on yelp aren't even on the menu anymore and I couldn't find any photos of the dishes of the current menu. Seafood Fish Fry 6/10 Batter and the shrimp is good, however the fish was overcooked and very tough to eat. Cornmeal Calamari 8/10 Again their batter is really good here. I also like how they give the tentacles and the rings. Clam Chowder 9/10 Lots of flavor! The clam chowder was one of the best I've had but it is a little on the thicker side. Service Our server was amazing! She was very sweet, kept making sure everything was ok. It was a slower night, with only 2 3 other tables and another server, but she kept disappearing for long periods of time. But when she did check up on us, she was amazing
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. EVERYTHING was great!! Cooked to perfection! We even had the honor of meeting chef Jordan and Master Chef Justin. Our waitress was fabulous. I would definitely go back again!!
Food was absolutely amazing. cooked to perfection with perfect spices. Portions are large. We did not have to wait very long for our food, but long enough that we knew it was being cooked to perfection. Service: one of the very best servers you can ask for is Anya. So professional but warm and understanding of what we were wanting to order. Her suggestions were spot on! Praises to Anya for a superb dining experience. AmbianceAtmosphere: Very relaxing ambiance with perfect lighting--not too dark but not too light. it was a perfect atmosphere for my husband and me. Hostess and cooks were very nice. We will certainly be back to enjoy it all again! If you're looking for great food and a wonderful, warm dining experience, you've got to try McCalls Heartland Grill in The Stat; you won't be let down!
My wife and I dined at McCalls earlier this week for dinner. We arrived at what I thought was prime time, but we were seated immediately. Our server was attentive and welcoming, which made the visit pleasant. The ambience was a little strange-upscale décor, moody lighting and loud music. The music wasn't even one genre-it was all over the place, making it hard to really set an identity. It seemed that the restaurant didn't know who they want to be. The food was just alright. The rolls looked like they would be amazing, but they were not great-they were just doused with butter to mask the odd flavor. The meat was very well done and seasoned so strongly that I had to chug water to get a few bites down. It could just be my taste buds, and not a flaw in the cooking, but based on a few other reviews, I don't think so. Overall, this is an ok place-not terrible, but not one that I'd hurry back for anytime soon.
