Hotel Restaurant Le Val de Vence

I don’t know about the hotel since we just passed through and decided to have dinner, but the restaurant is the worst I have ever been to! The service was bad though the waitress was nice enough, but the food Wasn’t even eatable. I sent it back once because the ”chef” had managed to put a roquefortsauce on a meal that was not at all supposed to have that (and I HATE roquefort), and when I got the ”correct” meal he had managed to make the meat so dry and hard that it was impossible to eat and the ”fresh fries” were soft and still tasted burnt, like the fryer had never had a change of oil... I gave up and tried to just have dessert, ’how hard can it be to serve ice cream’ I thought... but was served some stale old mess that wouldn’t pass for ice cream anywhere. Maybe the pizza could be ok wish we would have had that instead for sure! This place is in serious need of a real chef.

We had three criteria for selecting this hotel. It had to be a Logis de France establishment, it had to accept pets and it had to be just over the line from Belgium. We approached the hotel from a parallel road and the connecting road, narrowing to less than one lane in width, wandered through farmland and woods leaving us a bit skeptical f what awaited us. It turned out to be serendipitous. I have always wished for such an experience but had to wait until now. The room was most comfortable and the staff could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. The real delight was dinner! The meal began with an appetizing mise en bouche of rillettes de saumon. The entré was green asparagus in a cream sauce smother with shavings of country ham and tails of ecrevisses. Superb. The plat was grilled lamb chops served with roasted potatoes and a dish of mixed sautéed vegetables. Glorious. For dessert, we had strawberries and whipped cream served in layers of pastry. Wow. All of this at very reasonable prices. Anyone in the area would be well advised to try the restaurant out for him/herself.

Wow, the food here is incredibly healthy, and sooo yummyI had a small salad, and she was kind enough to warm the cold/warm items in the oven.

Plenty of choice from an extensive menu.The set menu is very good value. Quite a large seating area. Can get busy, due to its popularity.
