Contribuisci feedbackThis was the first restaurant we looked at in L’Escala. We then checked numerous others before deciding the €13.50 Menu del Dia looked interesting. We were not wrong. I have never had a cheap 3 course meal plus a glass of very nice vino tinto where so much effort had gone into presentation. The starters were superb and tasted as good as they looked.my wife’s salad with red fruits and jamon was stuffed full of strawberries and my rice with apple, tuna and hard boiled egg was delicious. We both chose the tuna for mains. A beautiful tuna steak (slightly undercooked but a quick return to the kitchen cured that) was accompanied by a small salad and guacamole. Again, delicious. For desserts my wife chose trufas (truffles) and got 4 lovely chocolate truffles and I chose the apple tart which came with honey. Delicious. Not only was the food superb but also very healthy none of the usual chips and soggy veg. The waitress was delightful. So helpful making sure we understood what we were getting. We speak some Spanish but this is Catalunya so sometimes things get lost in double translation. The setting is a dream. Right at the side of the bay with views right across the Bay of Roses. The only thing I can’t understand is why it wasn’t packed full.
Saturday night, reservation for 8 at 10 PM. Arrival in two groups. The first group 4 asked for something to drink Please, can you bring us a cava and something like olives to eat . Not until you are all here ! was the unpolite answer. Oh, where have their manners gone? For the nearby table with 8 girls in their 20s, all were smiles. Of course they had everything set before us, food included, although they arrived after us the all 8 . We had the first dish from the Pica Pica 35 minutes later, after we could order this took a looooong time until the waiter decided to give us attention . The wine, for example, was uncorked at the third appeal. So it was waiting on the table, with all watching the bottle... The crêpes came by pairs with long waiting periods in between, so when the last arrived, the rest had already finished. The kitchen has only two cookers...Wouldn 't they inform us so so be aware of the timing or may be ask for other dishes? The crêpes were not even good, and were not hot, getting cold in short time. In brief: Really a nightmare. Not recommended for eating. Unless you go for a drink as the terrace is very well placed, with nice views of the bay.
We called in for a late night drink and sat on one of the sofas and looked out out the twinkly lights across Roses. Service was very friendly music low key and chilled made for the perfect night cap.
Vaya mejor a Calella y siga allí enlatados.
