Food was good, but not out of the world. Smaller portions than most Japanese Steakhouses I've been to. Flavors were great. Soup was luke warm. The chef didn't put on much of a show. The 2 ladies serving didn't seem like they wanted to be there at all. Hardly spoke, if at all, brought my check and didn't offer dessert. Added 18%, which is fine, but I would've given 20% just because, had she tried just a little. Just a very uninviting experience for a restaurant that's supposed to be all about show.
While I must say the food was very well done I will also say the two hostesses/waitresses were kinda rude from the very start. One acted as though she was bothered that we were there. When she took our drink order I asked for lemonade. She told me they had none. Yet there it was on the menu. When I inquired about the dressing on the salad, once again, no salad. Maybe an adjustment of the dinner price would be in order. These menus are so peculiar. Such as the shrimp appetizer that never shows. The soup bowls were never cleared and the one drink refill we had to request was met with a huff. I don 't think we were asking for anything more than the simple dinner we paid for and I feel that the staff should have been more appreciative to have anybody at all in the restaurant as there was no other diners. I only wish there was a way to leave a tip for just the cook.
I am writing the review as objectively as possible in hopes that this once great restaurant makes the adjustments needed to restore its glory. Today we came in with a group of 7 for Fathers Day. There was only one other family dining so it was quite slow. We were seated and the waitress took our drink order. She returned with drinks and soup. The drinks were fine but the soup was way too salty and it was a broth with one single green onion piece. Fine, we'll chalk that up to a bad day. The chef came in and started doing his presentation. There was not much interactivity and no engagement, no volcano onion, no theatrics just doing what he needed to do to move on. The food was decent but a little salty. For the rest of the meal no one came by, no one checked on our table. No refills, no asking if everything was ok etc. At the end we had to get the attention of a hostess to get our bill. A 20% tip was added because of the size of the table. We paid and waited for someone to come by so we could get boxes to go. Again, nothing. My husband had to get up and walk over to the employees eating their lunch and ask for a to go container. (All employees were eating lunch. No one stood up they just pointed to a stack of to go containers. By this time there were 4 out 5 employees eating their lunch. The 5th employee was doing a demo a table. The others forgot that there were people in the building. Once again we had to get up and go over to the table and ask for a drink to go. The hostess then stood up and threw her chopsticks down in frustration because a customer needed something. Quite alarming. We used to love coming here but I don't think we'll be retuning. I'm really pretty sad about it because we have been going there for over 10 years. What happened? O'Hana if you do not want to service customers, do us a favor a become a drive thru. We spend $160.00 for bad service and so so food. Your a Hibachi Grill! People go for the show. Also if you don't want people bothering you while your eating don't eat in the front dining room. Make sure you are adequately staffed to manage the dining room and customers. Just sayin'!
TERRIBLE waitresses!! We could not hear them at all and they were very rude. After telling her we couldn't hear her she spoke up in a rude tone and started to talk about us to the other waitress. The soup smelt like wet dog and was also very salty and the waitresses never came to pick them up. The rice was also dry and did not have that much flavor and was also very hard. While we were eating a woman and the table beside us was trying to explain to the waitress a simple request for her elderly parents and the waitress could not understand, after numerous times of the woman explaining it to her. The waitresses also never came to give us refills until about 20 minutes after we were served, they also never checked on us. So if you want GOOD service and good food I recommend in going to the Ohana's in Lubbock.
