On Monday it is difficult to find open restaurants, but in the neighborhood we were lucky to find open this spot. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service. We tasted the Secretos de Porco Preto black pork steaks grilled with French fries crispy! and esparregado spinach purée . The Douro red wine we choose, was the perfect companion. As a desert the chocolate mousse was divine.
We dined out in the restaurant A Grelha. Walk from the Solplay hotel to Av Dom Pedro proceed to the second last road on right hand side of Av Dom Pedro turn right and restaurant in in front of you on Rue Anteron de Quental. Search using Google street view – it’s a maze on first visit They do great deals on a full chicken and chips for two. The chicken is cooked within sight on a large charcoal fire. The best is black pork steaks, if available on the day. There is no English menu but one waiter speaks English and one can always select from the raw meat and fish displayed in the fridge which is viewable from outside as one enters. This place is a step above the typical charcoal chicken restaurant so its well worth moving up a price notch and selecting great beef, pork or veal steaks and wine a selected by the waiter rather than the house wine. A bit of a walk but worth it All Portuguese restaurants charge for bread, butter, cheese, olives that are place on table and eaten by diners. No big deal but they can add unnecessary expense since portions are typically large

Bom restaurante de grelhados com muito bom peixe. Vale a pena comer a dourada grelhada que é sempre fresca e muito boa. As sobremesas também são um ponto forte.
