Every so often I go to a place where parts of the evening are good. Chestnut provided an amazing experience from Rachel's service to Taylor's cocktails to Brian's food to Brad's over seeing every customer. One was as good as the next. 10 on a 10 scale! Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating.
We have been making our way through the restaurants of Asheville and Chestnut came highly recommended. We are huge fans of Corner Kitchen and didn’t realize Chestnut is its sister restaurant, but once I realized it, it only added to the appeal. We went for brunch on a Sunday. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. It’s cozy and uniquely decorated, but doesn’t come off stuffy. The ****** Mary was awesome. For an appetizer, we got the pimento tots which were so delicious. They were nicely fried, not too heavy and not an overall “fried” taste. I personally loved the chow chow and arugula with each bite of the tot. For our main courses, we got the shrimp and grits and the chicken and waffles. I can personally same the shrimp and grits were very tasty. The grits were creamy and the sauce was delicious. The portion was just enough. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken and waffles. It came with 3 small waffles and a nice piece of chicken and he loved it! Our server was very kind and helpful. We were there for our anniversary and they offered a dessert on the house for our celebration, which we declined because we were full. We also took note of the plates and bowls being from East Fork, another Asheville small business which is super cool! Be sure to check them out, as well.
My love and I came here for a brunch on Sunday at 11 am. It was not busy at all, which was nice. The atmosphere is very nice, quiet, slightly dimmed light. Very comfortable and welcoming. Our waitress was very kind, knowledgeable, and quick. The ****** mary was not very strong but we did order the spicy one and it was quite spicy and delicious. For the food, we had to order the pimento cheese tater tots they were amazing! So delicious. I didn't need prefer the aioli but my love enjoyed it. The tots seemed to be handmade hand pressed, battered, and seasoned so incredibly well. YUM! Do yourself a favor and get the pimento cheese tots. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my love ordered shrimp and grits. We both loved our meals! The chicken was moist with a crispy batter. The waffles were soft in the inside but had a nice crispness to them on the outside. I loved the maple syrup drizzled in the sausage gravy. Super good meal, great place. Location is cool too. We found free street parking a block away, down the hill. We will be back. Side note: We LOVED the fact that they had East Fork pottery for their plates, bowls, and sauce dishes. Love it. Support local. Well done.
Great service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food was over seasoned for my preferences. I ordered the green tomatoes and it was so overpowering that I couldn’t finish it. The lamb meatballs, however, were delicious. The lobster bisque was great but I was not blown away. The shrimp and grits were also fine, but not out of this world. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading all those glowing reviews. Overall a nice restaurant.
