We decided to have lunch in O Caniço because there weren't many options and some of them looked like tourists traps. We didn't have many expectations but we saw Portuguese people eating there and we were surprised by the food, it was tasty and pretty nice in general, we enjoyed our lunch but don't expect a top restaurant. The staff was really kind.
We visited this restaurant because it featured in a guide book. It is in the garden area behind the main Belem High Street, on the south side. In a strip of restaurants with outdoor seating, it was the busiest. The 20 or so outdoor tables were looked after by just 1-2 people, so it took a while to order, receive drinks and food, etc. The cod (Euros 15) was generously sized, but salty and undercooked. Very heavy on the oils. Some nice vegetables (new potatoes, broccoli) completed the dish.
Me and my wife went to this restaurant on the first day of the year 2020. A Portuguese traditional family restaurant, installed on 1964, and facing the actual Belém green park, opposite to the Pasteis de Belém main street. A very pleasant meal, very friendly and attentive staff, not the usual selling boys... Not expensive. We enjoyed very much.
