Our waitress seemed new and inexperienced, as she did not know about the available beers and only offered a wine list. She was friendly and kind but was not properly briefed on what was not available. It was disappointing that a gastro pub on a high street ran out of regular milk, making it impossible for us to enjoy coffee with regular milk. Various items on the menu were also unavailable. The food itself was disappointing - bland, stodgy, and tasteless. The tortellini was poorly cooked and the pan-fried sea bass was overcooked. Despite being offered the dessert menu twice, it never arrived until we had to ask for it. The duty manager did acknowledge the issues and deducted the cost of two drinks.
I was disappointed with my Vegetarian Thai Green Curry at this restaurant. The sweetcorn and cauliflower were undercooked and difficult to eat. The only special offer available was on alcoholic cocktails, which I couldn't take advantage of as I don't drink alcohol. I used to enjoy this place, but this experience was not up to par.
Attention all vegans: The Bald Faced Stag is a great pub with a fun pub quiz that we highly recommend. On our recent visit, we decided to try some food. As a vegan, I was excited to see vegan fish and chips on the menu. Unfortunately, the dish was not what I expected. It was a lightly battered block of silken tofu without any fish flavoring. I have tried many vegan fish and chips before, and this was the most disappointing by far. The price was high for a dish that seemed to lack creativity. I suggest the pub consider using firm tofu or banana blossom for a better texture, seaweed or nori for a fishy taste, and capers for a salty flavor. I may return for the pub quiz and try other vegan options, but this experience left me feeling let down.
Booked ahead and when the 4 of us arrived we were handed a menu with most of the dishes actually scribbled out by pen. There were only about 4 main dishes left to choose from. The waiter did his best to look after us, apologising all the time, but the available food that we ordered was not great to be honest. When we asked for coffee he informed us the coffee machine had already been turned off. This was at 9.45pm. The fact that they had already turned off the coffee machine when diners were still in the restaurant showed how much they valued our custom. This is the second time we have been treated like this at the Bald Faced Stag. So we will not be returning.
Was very quiet but it was a Monday after all , we were kindly shown to our table and handed the menu where upon the staff member went over was not available. We ordered some drinks and settled down, when our food arrived was quite surprised at the size of our portions (definitely not leaving hungry) all in all a very nice place to eat and drink and I will definitely be coming back
