As soon as I walked in, I had a very pleasant impression of a well-trafficked atmosphere with very distinctive décor. The music in the room also seemed very tasteful, with a good variety of British and American bands from the psychedelic rock counterculture of the 60s and 70s, including The Animals, CCR, and Jefferson Airplane. I confess that I fell in love with the cosy, charming, and elegant welcome of this bar in the heart of London, just a 15-minute walk from Big Ben and the London Eye along the River Thames. The beers I drank were particularly tasty, special adn delectable. The bar offers a diversity of flavor experiences, with a range of different beers, each with its own distinct personality. Before choosing my starter beer, I had the opportunity to sample a number of different craft beers, kindly offered by a very welcoming team. I tried a variety of IPA, PALE ALE, and STRONG ALE beers, each one more flavorsome than the last. I have to confess that my taste buds had synesthetic experiences. I was charmed by the warmth with which Anna and Alice welcomed me, with a remarkable talent for handling customers ' requests with attention, kindness, and grace. In short, the place is cozy, very well attended, and alluring. My only criticism is that it would be much more alluring if the staff could dress more freely in their own clothes, rather than a monochrome outfit with National Theater KERB written on it, which I found very distasteful and which contrasts enormously with the free, alluring, and relaxed atmosphere of The Understudy. Apart from the staff 's terrible choice of clothes, The Understudy is an authentic bar you will want to visit and that will remain in your memory for a long and good time.
For a bar in such a creative and lively spot as the understudy its a real shame to see what's happening there, I don't know if this is a management problem but The Understudy is becoming increasingly bland by the day. The same music every night. The vibe used to be bright and lively but is now just dead. The cherry on top for all of this is now I have seen that the staff are being forced to wear a uniform. Why? Seems to go against the ethos of the understudy and the national theatre as a whole. Such a shame.
Terrible experience at this restaurant. I ordered through a QR code at my table, paid, and was waiting for my food to arrive. However, I received a text message saying my order had been cancelled and I was refunded. Not impressed.
One of our faves. The selection of food is comprehensive and the chicken is spot on. The food selection ranges from Indian, chicken to sourdough pizza. Not busy and staff were very attentive and had great service. We always look forward to visiting this place again.
The food and drinks at the restaurant are delicious and ideal for a quick bite before a show. However, I must mention the poor service I received at the bar. I was surprised by the rudeness and overall lack of good service and attention. I saw customers of all ages that night, and I hope they did not have the same experience I did. I hope it was just an unfortunate incident.
