This place never disappoints. An icon of old L.A. The meat is tender and juicy and hand-sliced. The sides are fantastic, especially the cole slaw, potato salad and kosher pickles. They have a great craft beer selection, too. A great stop before or after a Dodgers game. Highly recommended. 2 thumbs
The best!! And whether that is the nostalgia of eating here or not, I don’t know. I first came with my grand parents in law (who have passed away) and fiancé (now wife) 23 years ago. Every trip to LA can only be considered complete if we go here. I get the same thing, lamb French dip, wet. Then I add custard or a side. I love this place.
The au jus was delicious, of course, and you have your usual cast of kooky downtown characters. I would say the pie was good, but I didn’t get enough to judge since my girlfriend ate almost all of it we got the beef on a French roll, single dipped. We even saved half a sandwich for our roommate, and it was still good. I think the coleslaw has room for improvement, but I doubt they’ve changed the recipe in 100 years so it’s all good.
This LA institution has been churning out French dip sandwiches for over a century. Got the classic beef dip with extra meat and a side of potato salad and it was very tender. Only USDA Prime beef is used here. It's a popular pre-Dodger game meal spot and has a free parking lot for customers. They also serve breakfast during morning hours and numerous fresh baked goods.
