Calderwood Lodge Supper Club - Luck

I was quite disappointed with the service at this restaurant. Despite there being only a handful of customers, it took 20 minutes to receive my drink. After finally placing my order, I had to wait an additional 45 minutes for my food to arrive. When it did, the quality was mediocre at best, and I found the prices to be unreasonably high. To be honest, if there had been a Taco Bell nearby, I might have left in frustration, even though I’m not particularly fond of their food. It’s clear that I won’t be returning.

While we waited for our meals, we found the indoor temperature uncomfortably cold, which led us to keep our coats on. The dim lighting contributed to a rather unwelcoming atmosphere, and we noticed that the prices were quite high. I echo the sentiments of Michele E., who also reviewed the restaurant and captured our feelings perfectly. My husband and I have decided not to return unless there are new owners and substantial renovations occur.

Disregard any reviews you come across about this restaurant; the experience is something you must witness for yourself. After you visit, you might even find yourself reminiscing about a tidy and well-kept McDonald's in downtown Chicago. The cleanliness here seems to have vanished along with the owner’s wife, who I suspect has been gone for around 25 years. If you dare to glance at the carpet upon entering, you'll quickly understand my point. I can only imagine how the kitchen looks. This place is truly a chef's worst nightmare.

I had a fantastic experience with the food! We celebrated our first dinner as a married couple at this restaurant, and I genuinely hope we can return to celebrate our 30th anniversary there as well.

Calderwood is an excellent choice for a family meal. The battered cod has been one of my favorite dishes since I was a child, and I particularly enjoy the beer cheese soup with its delightful popcorn topping.
