I travel through the Madison area periodically, and have almost always eaten at Famous Dave 's. The last time was admittedly a few months ago (September), but as I 'm headed there again soon, I wondered about leaving this review on the off chance someone might respond. I 'd never been charged for service before, particularly at a place where I order at the counter and refill my own drinks. I 'm sorry, but what amounts to $4/person to have my tray delivered to the two of us is curious at best. Debating whether I 'll be back. EDIT: Received an answer to my comment above that the Service Charge on my bill was my gratuity. I left a cash tip at the table because I didn 't see gratuity or tip on the receipt. I hope the staff got all of it because it amounted to a 40% tip. You need to change what your printout says.
I was looking for a barbecue restaurant in Madison near my hotel downtown. I chose Famous Dave's where closer to the hotel. It was very emptied when I walked in around 8pm, but a few staff were probably busy with takeaway orders, so I waited for a few mins until I was served to order. Since it was my first time dining at the famous Dave's, I asked for a recommendation after telling my favourite Barbie was ribs and beef briskets. Then I ordered 2 meat combos with 2 sides and a bottle of beer, sadly they didn't have any draft beer. I found a table next to the window and it didn't take long to get my food ready. The lady served the food to my table, well, I thought I needed to bring my food from the counter by myself. The rib was good, it was tender and moist and sauce was evenly covered on each rib. I think it's 85/100. But the beef brisket was too dry and I expected at least a bit of marbling and fat. The portion was good though. It is worth revisiting for the rib but definitely not for beef brisket.
Update Feb 9/24: I decided to try the 10 under $10 Daily Lunch deals. We had the Chicken Strip Basket and the Georgia Pulled Pork Sandwich. Both were terrific. The Chicken Strip basket came with two sides, so we got the garlic red-skin mashed potatoes and the Wilbur Beans and both were great. Lots of other sides choices to pick from. My sandwich came with one side, I picked sweet corn and I got two mini corn cobs! To top it off, we both got a corn bread muffin and they are really good. Lunch deals run from 11am to 4 pm on Weekdays only. We will be back! Got a $5 off fish entree coupon via Email. I used it to order online to get the Cod-Father sandwich. It was terrific. Good size cod fillet larger than the bun! Comes with one side dish so I opted for the fries which were fried potato wedges and were really good! Also provided with some Dave's spicy pickles slices and homemade tartar sauce. We did takeout. They offered additional Dave's BBQ sauce packets for free and they are larger than most sauce packets! We also love Famous Dave's corn muffins. Only $8 for a half dozen. Had to have them! Overall a great deal and delicious!
I can’t lie I’ve noticed when you ask for rob tile they put Burt ends or what ever tough thin piece of meat this is in as well to make it look fuller instead of all rib tips like you’re paying for! Idk if it’s just take out orders or what but it constantly happens
It was a little complicated to enjoy my food while sitting in such a cold restaurant. Other than that it was enjoyable!
