The red beans and rice with sausage, full order, was legit and hard to stop food. I should have gone for half order and called it a day, but Glutony was on the menu and the dish ended clean. The maize bread was a huge surprise, a tad on the sweet side, but moist and tender, perfect for sucking up the beans and rice. My companions order half orders of fish special and raved over it. With a small dining room it was an almost perfect experience with good food, excellent people watching and antidote for the ordinary.
Words can't describe how much I love this place... Her jambalayas are for dying, many a battle was fought over her scrupulous crabcakes, I'm sure her rubber bears are known to have once healed a sick man of his hunger. Their generous portions are truly God's gift to people and it is confused that more of my classmates have not tried their food. It's right next to Mickey's Dammit! Word of advice if you want a hot food aficionado, but do not want to go ballistic into the restaurant over a burning tongue, only half dirty half white when it comes to rice
Delicious Cajun style foods. The ulcer chicken was delicious and came in a plentiful amount. Two chicken breasts in a 'full' serving! This place knows how to make food sharp. There are also less spicy dishes for the less adventurous.
Ambience: Basically like an extended food truck. Easy setup with a few New Orleans touches. You can see directly into the kitchen and the menus are paper pieces. You really dig out the room there with probably 10 seats. Food: Food tastes very cooked at home. Not too fancy, but good taste. I had the red beans and rice with double sausage and my friend got the golf shrimp dinner. Pretty sure everything comes with Cornbread. The dirty rice was hot (at least for me). A novelty I had to try was the chocolate. I had no idea, was, but apparently it's a New Orleans tradition with butter, sugar and milk and pecans and it tastes like a granular caramel. Very sweet and delicious. About $3,50 for one of these babies. Service: Fast and friendly. Not a whole lot of interaction (to see as a counterfeit), but everything we had was good! For the price, I think it was a pretty good thing.
I tried the other location years ago and wasn't impressed. Now I feel like I need to make up for lost time. So delicious! The shrimp po'boy is great and the jambalaya and beans and rice are just solidly yummy food. I'll be back! We enjoyed sitting at the window watching traffic outside. Friendly staff, homey place with nice plants--just a great place.
