I don’t expect a great deal from a yacht club in Southport but I certainly do not expect to be spoken to rudely by the matrie d’ or be addressed as ‘mate’ by him when I am dining with my children, sister and her children . I would never set foot in this venue again and not recommend it. The management on the evening we were there for dinner was appalling.
We visited here for dinner as a very short stroll from where we were staying. Food was good, service good, the view especially at sundown amazing you can’t beat it!
We’ve always liked coming here when we visit Gold Coast, after reading some of the negative reviews I was hesitant but I’m glad we chose to eat here again. Yes the tiger prawn entre is tiny, it’s 3 prawns on some smashed avocado with 9 salmon eggs/caviar and micro herbs but hey it’s an entre. I had the lemongrass chicken salad which has been the best tasting salad I have had in the last 3 days, so tasty that I’ve taken the left overs home. My daughter had the kids chicken rice which she likes and ate a lot of, she didn’t like the lemongrass and ginger in it found it overpowering for a child but omg for me it tasted awesome. Fish n chips from the casual menu was fresh and the prices we think were relevant. Only suggestion would be you could have had cocktail specials throughout midweek instead of $20 each. The cloudy bay sav Blanc was $65 which was better priced in comparison to other places charging $80 for the bottle. We’ve always liked this place and will be back again.
My Husband and i decided to go To Southport Yacht club for lunch Sat June 17th, he stood in line at the bar and while he was in line, he received an urgent call from his business partner. When it was his turn to be served, he put his phone on his chest and asked for 2 drinks. Below is how the conversation went Barmaid replied “No, not until you get off your phone”. Husband put his phone on the bar “Now Can I get a drink?” Barmaid “Yes” Husband “Can I use my phone Now?” Barmaid “It’s up to you, but that was just rude”. This happened in front of 5 other gobsmacked customers, I was so disgusted when my husband came back to the table and told me this, I asked to see the manager. Turns out the rude barmaid was one of the Managers on duty as well. We left with our drinks sitting on table. The Duty manager we spoke to was very nice and also upset that her Co-worker had mistreated my husband. She advised us to email the General Manager Brett James and gave us his card, that was nearly a month ago and we have had no reply. What a shame as we are locals and regular visitors of this club. So, when do we as customers start taking signs around with us that state. “Respect Your Customers! We are here to buy your goods, not be abused”.
Every month the SYC hosts a special dinner for members' birthdays. We have attended several of these events but this month's was very disappointing. The set 3-course meal had an air of mass processing about it with some looking like they were store-bought or using inferior produce. Meat was sinewy and fatty. If this is an indication of their regular menu, then my friends and I will be giving this Club a wide berth in future.
