I’ve gone to Schulers since I was a kid. I’m 55 now for timeline reference . Today is Mother’s Day, 2014. My mother is in a local nursing home for physical therapy and rehab, so I wanted to take her a good, warm meal. I called ahead from BC only to find out they were closing at 5:30 pm Google shows much different . This means my call got my order in just in time for pick up. Well. I specifically asked if they had any specials for Mother’s Day. After hearing the specials, one sounded like a great appetizer, but was actually an entree “crab stuffed shrimp” , so I ordered two as I am having dinner with my mother on Mother’s Day as I stated before and want to make a point . Because they were actually an entree, they came with mashed potatoes, asparagus and side salads. Finally, the other “special “ was prime rib with potatoes, roasted vegetables including onion, bell peppers, green beans. Well, I arrive at the restaurant and find a sticker shock of $200! Yeah, that’s before tip, and I tip very well. I shopped around for a growler of a tasty IPA and grab a growler where I added an all inclusive tip of at least 25%. I drive a couple miles to go to see my mother. I opened each box. Let me say this before I continue….. I am a gourmet cook and my mother has enjoyed my creations with great jubilee for many years. So, the crab stuffed shrimp, mashed potatoes and asparagus were pretty good. The “prime rib” box I chose had different vegetables than the other. Yeah, they were good, but why didn’t both boxes have equal vegetables? Interesting in itself, but wait……. In my many travels, many quality restaurants, and cooking myself, we are accustomed to a prime rib that can be cut with a fork. Not only did I break the plastic fork and knife they gave me, I also struggled with an actual plate, knife and fork the aid at the nursing home gave us. I sat disgusted watching my mother struggling to cut her meat and I had to step in to cut it for her. We both struggled to chew and hard swallowed. Look at the photo and it speaks much more than my words. Schuler’s in Marshall, MI is the biggest joke ever and Miss Damron SHOULD be ashamed of herself. Did I mention I paid in total over $275?…. Look at the photo . Schuler would turn over in his grave………
Still wonderful after many years! EVERYONE was super friendly, helpful, attentive and fun! The food is very good. We especially loved the Traverse City Salad! We'll be back!
