For a vegetarian place they would expect that at least half of the menu vegan, there was a toastia and two suppen and that is it. the toastia was made with pate from a tube. (I know that only because she sold the pipes in the next load, miserable woman who served us could not take care of less. it did not seem to know what was vegan after we asked several times, they were about a cheese toastia we had ordered (while they told us it was vegan) and it was dropping with milk. we said that this vegan cheese she said it was “normal cheese”. I don't have to tell people how milk is normal. what this was on the way back to the car, we saw that baby calves were donated in their tiny cages by their mothers and it broke our hearts. abysmal service, terrible vegan menu. they like it when they are vegetarian, the salads and cakes looked better than what we had.
The menu options for vegetarians were uninspiring, with mainly filled rolls, jacket potatoes, and a pasta dish. The soup lacked flavor and the rolls were hard. My husband also had issues with his roll, but the accompanying salad was decent, with a variety of tasty veggie options. It was the salad that earned this restaurant two stars in my book. Despite its potential, our experience that day fell short of expectations.
I stumbled upon this gem on my way to Chatsworth. The vegetarian and vegan food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the whole experience had a charming homemade feel to it. I highly recommend this place!
We've been here a handful of times; it's definitely on our repeat visit list. It's a friendly, pleasant and reasonably priced vegetarian cafe where you can get a nice cup of tea and cake or a filling veggie meal. The mains are mostly along the lines of a veggie flan or pie with salad or jacket potato; there are lots of jacket potato options and the cakes are superb, with several gluten free and vegan options. If you are appreciate old machinery the working old water wheel powered flour mill is definitely worth a visit.
