Service was friendly and efficient. Recommend the beef tartare. There was to much to eat with the two orders. Very cheap and tasty night out.
We went on the back of rave reviews from friends, whether the expectations were too high or something else we really didn't enjoy the food. The place in nice enough in a shabby way and the service very pleasant. We went for the chefs platter, a selection of all of the vegetarian dishes served on a number of large pancakes (injera), sadly the dishes all tasted somewhat similar and, probably because of the slow cooked nature, didn't seem fresh. A shame
I recently ate at Abesha and highly recommend it.The food was fantastic, it came quickly and the service was warm and friendly. You have the option to get one big platter for everyone to share together or separate, individual platters.I got the mixed vegetarian platter which I loved - it came with some salad, various differently-spiced lentil dishes, potato, and green vegetables. All of this is served atop a bed of injera, the traditional flatbread. One of my companions got a spicy beef dish and raved about its wonderful flavour.Ethiopian music was playing quietly and it helped create a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.Cost is very reasonable.Highly recommended - go and enjoy with friends or family!
We were here for a friends birthday party and there were eleven of us. Some of us like spicy food and some prefer things tasty, but not so hot. Abesha was able to cater to all of us.We had three share platters and several other dishes to share. This was plenty of food for all and the flavours were fantastic. The owner who served us was very friendly and the food was served quite quickly. It is always a good idea if you are going to drink beer to drink the beer that matches the food, and the St George lager is a perfect drink to go with the range of tastes and textures on offer on each of the share platters.Abesha is also a very cheap place to eat, with drinks included it was less than twenty dollars per head. Abesha makes a trip to Footscray very worthwhile. Highly recommended
Abesha has reputation for serving better than average African food. Ethiopian restaurants have sprung up by the dozen in Footscray it seems. Abesha is one of the better ones. Eat lots of injera bread it will fill you up. Injera bread is like a big, flat crump, served cold.
