Place was empty but when you are a solo server taking orders inside and from a to go spot, things can get a little long. Nothing detrimental and the speed at which the food comes out saves it. Service though is friendly and willing to talk about the foods and backgrounds if need be. The sanbuus are filled with curried beef that is tasty though perhaps a bit small. It does comes with a what looks like a half size, side salad. Goat meat is great and not to fatty with some fajita bell peppers and onions over them. Garnish of raisins. Then a side of potatoes and what tasted like a curried/marinara sauce. Tea was excellent and hot. What confuses me so far with trying Somali food is the hot level, something always seems off by this quality. Goat warm, not hot. Fajita spread was perhaps less than lukewarm. Potatoes were warm, sauce was lukewarm.
God! I wish we had something remotely close to this east African cuisine in Dallas. Was one of the recommendation from DHRR and it was a wonderful experience. We got the family platter with goat Curry, jumbo steak and chicken. Plenty of flavorful food enough for our family of 5 for 2 meals. The tea and mango juice were also included in the meal. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody. The wait was worthwhile.
Came here on a Sunday night for dinner. The location is in a shadier part of Lakr Street, so do be cautious of your surroundings. However, the food is great. The restaurant has a fast casual feel where you order at the counter and wait for your food. There is an attached banquet hall for parties. We ordered sambusas (Somali samosas), chicken cutlet, steak and rice, pasta and a wrap. Entrees average $10-$15, which is a little pricey in my opinion for the amount of food you get and the quality of the restaurant. Entrees come with a drink. Our food tastes fresh and came out within 20 minutes. I loved my steak and the cutlet was delicious. The sambusas could have been better, especially with the type of crust used. Overall, enjoyed the food. The service was pleasant. Would return.
We had never tried Somalian food before but it was excellent! A favorite was the goat mandi and Ke Key. The chicken mango curry was excellent as well!
