This place is my go-to for Laksa and Hainen Chicken rice in Mississauga. It was really good before but since the old owners sold the restaurant (I believe to their employees), it has really gone downhill. Food is still decent, though nowhere as good as it used to be. It's the service that really dropped down. Missed orders and no apologies on a couple occassions.
This is one of my favourite Malaysian places to eat.Because I am a vegetarian, I do not have many options so I stick to 3-4 items on the menuNasi Goreng, made vegetarian with tofu and veggie meat and some veggiesMee Goreng, vegetarian with lots of veggies (nice and saucy)Kang Kong, made with garlic sauce and the house sambal sauceIf no Kang Kong available then, beans or bok choyAll dishes come with herbal tea.I also like to order the vegetarian sambal on the side so that I can add to my dishes if they are not spicy enough (sambal has a quite a bit of kick to it)I usually order a side of roti with my dishes, which is a nice addition to clean up the extra sauce or to have with the rice. (roti is made from all purpose flour)Service, is excellent and for the price, you get a lot of food, enough for 3 people. For dessert, I have tried the Ice Kachang, that was out of this world delicious and it has become a guilty pleasure (if I am not too full)I don't know how to describe it, basically it is ice with different syrups, beans and some fruits and it is just the right amount of sugar and ice combination. You probably want to share this as it comes in a large servingRestaurant is quite clean and welcoming, I go here several times a month, sometimes just as take out.I definitely recommend this to anyone who is vegetarian as I cannot comment on the non-veg food.***NOTE, IF VEGETARIAN, THEN ASK THEM TO USE THE VEGETARIAN SAMBAL SAUCE NOT THE ONE WITH FISH BASE FOR THE DISHES***
Downright one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. Just as a background, I am a biracial woman (part Asian) who grew up in the GTA region. I grew up to an Asian mom and an Asian extended family so I've been to a lot of Asian restaurants all around the GTA area. My grandma has been ranting and raving about Lion City restaurant so when my aunt suggested that we go there Sunday night, we decided to go there for dinner. As someone who has a higher affinity to American and European cuisines as opposed to Asian (expect for Chinese...I love Chinese food!!), I was skeptical about coming to Lion City seeing as it is Indonesian, Malaysian, & Singaporean, but I decided to keep an open mind. The overall experience was not pleasant. When we got there, there weren't any tables left for parties more than 4, so I had to sit at the edge of the table (we had a party of 5). That meant that I was constantly being bumped into by the waiter which was annoying. Also, they had limited amount of certain foods which was aggravating!! We came at 8 pm so we didn't think it would be a problem seeing as they close at 10. For appetizers, we ordered chicken satay & spring rolls. They came to tell us that they ran out of chicken satay and that only pork and beef were left which I don't eat. We then ordered 2 orders of spring rolls ( 8 total) to compensate for the lack of satay, and they later came out to tell us that they best they could do was give out 5 since they ran out! Ugh! I am not very adventurous when it comes to eating so I played it safe by ordering an egg noodle dish. Of course they came to tell me that they ran out of egg noodles and recommended another dish that was the most similar. That dish was ok...nothing special to brag about and the over abundance of bean sprouts was gross since I hate bean sprouts. We ordered a green curry dish for my mom and aunt since they can't eat spicy foods and once again, they came back and said they ran out. They then said they can bring red curry but that it would be too spicy and that there was nothing they could do to tone down the spicy-ness. We also had fried rice and a vegetable dish (stir fry French bean) and fried Rice. The French bean wasn't that great in my opinion .Lastly, our waiter looked pretty tired and didn't make an effort to come check up on us. We had to ask for cups of water/other drinks instead of him checking up on us. I don't think the taste of the food compensated for the lack of food available and the poor service.
The curry dishes are watery and out of standard; the wife/chef cooks poorly, just so so, price is not reasonable; would not go back a second time.though the husband tried to be friendly as the host. Sorry, no second time.
