I decided to try the Singapur Reis (similar to Singapore noodles, but with rice) and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion of shrimp and other delicious ingredients. The dish tasted amazing overall.
It is important to note that this restaurant does not have restroom facilities. Despite informing the owner about my broken foot, I was directed to the nearest public restroom, a 5-10 minute walk away. It was disappointing as the food and service were excellent.
We have tried dim sum in Chinatown in Sydney, San Francisco, and even in fancy restaurants in Hong Kong, but these organic, handcrafted dumplings are truly the best we have ever tasted. Made with fresh ingredients and skillfully prepared, the chef deserves applause. This place, Castlemaine Yum Cha Kitchen, has definitely earned its spot on the map. Congratulations.
We were so impressed that we asked to speak with the cook joe and praise him on the taste and quality of the food. it was better than top restaurants in melbourne in taste and transported us back to asia, especially the Singapore noodles. No, it's...not beautiful, but grabs a stamp with fresh, with free sortiment and large staff. we would travel back to castlemaine for this restaurant.
My wife and I visited the Taste of the Orient today for lunch as a result of reading the great reviews on TripAdvisor. We certainly we not disappointed! We walked off the street to find that the small restaurant was busy and had to wait...outside for about 10 minutes until a table became available. There is some seating outside but on a cold day we preferred to be inside. Inside only caters for about 20 seated patrons. We ordered the deluxe mixed basket which contained steamed dumplings and dim sims, a serve of chicken chives steamed dumplings (3 pieces), a serve of prawn chives steamed dumplings (3 pieces), finished off by a steamed custard bun each. It was worth the travel from Romsey as the food was fresh, tasty and amazing. We also learnt that they also sell at local farmers markets including Lancefield. Well worth a visit but we suggest you book in advance if you want an inside table. Cheers, Paul
