After a week away from home, my friends and I decided to treat ourselves to some fish and chips from our usual spot. Unfortunately, the fish was terrible. The batter was rock hard and the portion size was tiny. I barely ate any of mine, as most of it was inedible. The chips were also disappointing. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone in the future. I would rather drive further for better quality.
I hadn't been to Cleethorpes in years and was in the mood for some fish and chips. I was trying to find a chippie I had been to before when I stumbled upon The Fryer. I managed to get there just before closing at 2.30, and the staff kindly made me fresh fish, even staying open late to do so. I'm so happy they did because not only was it a great value at 3.50 for a small haddock and chips, but it was also delicious. The fish was high quality with fresh skin on and a nice white flesh that tasted amazing. The chips were also excellent in both quality and quantity. If this place was local to me, I would be here every week - it would be a great excuse for a fish day Friday!
Fish chips mushy peas where fantastic very fresh batter was lovely!! Give it a solid 9/10 definitely be going back.. Well played fryer
What a load of tosh the other review is. Found this chip shop by accident whilst on holiday. Lovely couple running it and all fish cooked to order. After trying possibly ALL the chip shops in Derby (LOTS) I have to say this is very close to being at the top of the list. Fish was absolutely gorgeous and so fresh, chips likewise. What I could not believe however was the price, a bargain. Large haddock was £4 and the chips £1.40 a total of £5.40 each. At home prior to going away an identical size fish was £5.10 and chips £1.80= £6.90. these have since gone up to £5.50 and £2=£7.50. It is such a pity we live 100 miles away. Please give them a try
