Do not be distracted from one of these low reviews, I was satisfied at any level possible from the service to point, to the most amazing cooks I have ever experienced. I would recommend this to every sushi enthusiast! If you feel adventurous, tell the cook what you like about sushi and ask for a custom surprise me roll, you will not be disappointed. Best sushi I ever had hands, knees of bees, article 9, next level, sushi art! That's great!
Great taste! The first time here, so we tried a few kitchen cups. The shrimps are my favorite. FYI the shrimp appetizers that come with your entreé is added only 2 shrimps to your plate.
A great little find while we bought in the Strip Center there in Port Charlotte. The food was very fresh, large portions and full of taste. The children enjoyed beef fried rice and some sushi with me. Great service, they were very accommodating when our children came after dinner. My only complaint was that the tables were very worn and a little sticky. The restaurant could use some updates. But we enjoyed the food and that it was reasonably expensive. This remains on our way to the list when we visit family again in Port Charlotte. Kid friendly and no waiting were a plus!
I wanted to try this place, and I'm glad I finally took the opportunity lately. A few things, I prefer the clear soup over the misery that a LOT seaweed had in it. The ginger on the salad was good, but a little watery. Hibachi tasted great. The Bento box with Vegetable Tempura was a little too oily for me (because I change my diet) and I would switch to the Teriyaki option for the next time. The three pieces of Shumai in the box decorated AMAZING and I wanted more! I would definitely go back to an affordable lunch.
Kumo Japanese steak house is worth the visit: good food AND entertainment! This is the best Hibachi restaurant I've been to in the SW FL area. The food is excellent and the chefs are entertaining. On a recent visit, I placed an order for the Hibachi grill, and my wife ordered sushi. The Hibachi meals come with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. The salad was ok, but the soup was excellent. The chef we had was clearly not a new hand ... he had his moves down pat, including juggling knives, flipping an egg into his hat and the standard onion volcano. The Hibachi included fried rice, sautéed vegetables and 2 shrimp in addition to whatever food you ordered. I tried the seafood delight, with shrimp, scallops and lobster. All were done just right, with a good sauce (teriyaki? with dipping sauces on the side. My wife's sushi had both good presentation and tasted great too! I'm not a big fan of sushi, but I tried the honeymoon roll and it was excellent! Another companion ordered a martini and hot sake and pronounced both excellent. The only minor issues (and the reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that service was a bit slow, and the chef, while practiced, wasn't as good as some I've seen. We had to ask more than once for such items as sake and soft drink refills. Granted they were busy, but I don't find that an acceptable excuse. As to the chef, he made no mistakes, but some Hibachi grills I've been to have more elaborate moves (ex: catching a thrown shrimp just before it hits you and more entertaining banter. They didn't do a bad job, they just could have done a better one. I would definitely recommend Kumo to anyone looking for food entertainment at the same time.
