Athens Coffee Shop - Paterson

I consistently find that my orders are incorrect. They use subpar ingredients and the customer service is extremely lacking. The staff can be quite rude, acting as though they are doing the customer a favor just by taking their order. Additionally, they won't allow customers to speak with management. This diner used to be a beloved institution in Paterson, NJ, but it has failed in every aspect! I strongly advise against dining here!

Every day, the prices fluctuate, which is incredibly frustrating. I can't believe a simple egg and cheese sandwich on wheat toast costs nearly $9. It's also uncomfortable to eat with homeless individuals begging inside the restaurant. The owner's wife seems to be constantly raising the prices. If you don’t eat meat, be aware that the eggs might taste like bacon, which is just terrible. And getting inside is a hassle, with people asking for change outside and some questionable activities happening in front of the restaurant. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place.

This restaurant is excessively overpriced, and that's coming from a New Yorker. The food simply wasn't worth the cost. The customer service was minimal, with the staff seeming uninterested in serving us. The French toast lacked flavor, the bacon tasted old, like it had been cooked the day before, and the chicken seemed like it was taken straight from a frozen box. The grits were just topped with a thin layer of cheese and had nothing mixed in. This will be my first and last visit.

This was my first date with my now wife 15+ years ago. It will always hold a special place with me. Great food and to take out if you're on the go. Anytime I'm in downtown I try to visit.

Legendary Athens diner. Been going there with my dad. Now I'm going there with my son. Food is always good. Service is always good.
