We informed the receptionist that we were very hungry and she directed us to the bar/eating area for service. Despite several waiters appearing busy behind the bar, we were completely ignored. There were only two other people waiting to be served in the room, as well as a few outside in the garden. After being ignored, I walked to the bar and asked for a menu, but was only given the drinks list. Eventually, we received the food menu and placed our order, which turned out to be a vastly overpriced selection from the afternoon tea menu. The tea we ordered arrived in a glass pot that was half full of tea leaves and too strong. The food arrived on small plates with minimal portions, including mini sandwiches, quiche, wraps, and a soggy chicken pastry. Despite the high cost of £26, we decided to order desserts after waiting for a long time. After another lengthy wait, we finally received our desserts, which were disappointing in appearance and quality. The whole dining experience took over two hours, with poor service and subpar food at a total cost of £53. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the staff, but it was not addressed adequately. We do not recommend Borringdon Hall, especially if you are hungry, as the service and food quality were both lacking. The manager should consider providing his staff with better training and improving the quality of the food. We would not return to this establishment.
The venue was fantastic and the food was excellent, but it was disappointing that the tea was served much too early, causing it to get cold before the food arrived. Despite having a voucher from a friend, our experience was ruined when the waitress returned with a card machine and requested a service charge before we had even finished our meal. We usually tip based on the quality of the food and service, and would have left something regardless, but being asked to pay before we were done eating was off-putting. We have decided not to return and will not be recommending this restaurant to others.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a festive afternoon tea. It was well worth it, with superb attention to detail in the pastries and delicious offerings all around. The atmosphere, complete with Christmas decorations, was also superb. And, of course, the staff provided superb service. We cannot wait until next year. Thank you.
This was supposed to be a lovely treat for a birthday, booked weeks in advance of the day. We arrived at 10 past 3 in the afternoon. We were shown to our table in the second room behind the bar. The atmosphere was dissapointing but we remained optimistic as the place is charming. We were given a tea menu and left. Nobody came in to take our order for the tea drink until 3:40. It then took another 10 minutes for the two teapots of tea to arrive. We asked a waiter when the food would be arriving and they said they would check. We were told nothing and left waiting until gone 4pm, at which point we decided to leave as we were too hungry to wait any longer. The staff did not seem surprised that we were leaving and couldn't offer any explanation as to what was taking the food afternoon tea, scones, sandwiches etc) so long to arrive. We hoped to attend further events such as New Year's Eve, but unfortunately would not recommend the service in the slightest. Very very dissapointing for something that had been so looked forward to.
I would like to thank you so much for making my parents Golden wedding anniversary celebration tea so special on Wednesday March 20th. Your attention to detail was beautifully presented and my parents were delighted! I am very grateful to you and I hope to visit you soon myself. Best wishes to all the team. Rachel X
