Heard a lot of good things about Valley Smoke and decided to finally try it and like many restaurants in and around Jacksonville, was disappointed. The food was not bad, but almost everything came out warm not hot. Not sure if it was sitting out, or not cooked to order. We had the cornbread and tomato soup both only warm and raw oysters that were not as cold as they should be. Also tried the ribs and brisket, both decent but smoke flavor did not come through enough, have had better BBQ for the price. Sides were ok as well-Mac Cheese, bacon green beans. Service and drinks were good, along with the look of the restaurant. It was just lacking something, especially when I have higher expectations from reviews and referrals. Maybe I have been lucky to live in other major cities that had great food and have to lower my standards for the area.
So amazing. This is a staple in PV. I've never had anything that wasn't good! And the bourbon selection is top notch
I can't say enough good things about this place! My friends have been raving about it but I've been out of town each time they've gone. Luckily I got the chance to go! Great ambiance, great bar, and great food. My cocktail was on the small side but delicious. The cornbread skillet was hot and cooked to perfection. Best ribs and brisket I've ever had. My creamed spinach and friend's jalapeño grits were really good. The only thing that didn't win me over was the Mac n cheese. We ended the evening with the hummingbird cake which was must try. Our waitress wasn't as attentive as I like but we had 2 managers visit our table to ask about our experience which was very thoughtful. This is definite must try. Best to make reservation because it gets crowded quickly.
Although it took a small minute until the waiter welcomed us, he was excellent. I think his name was joey or john, but he was friendly and very well informed about the products. our eating was the bomb. the drinks were different, but suffered and tasted great. the mac and the cheese were quite hard and there were not enough sweet potato with my garnel, but the meat was tender and fell from the bone. they didn't have the gloomy I wanted so Joey/John recommended the rips and they were excellent. overall the experience was amazing and I will definitely return again.
