I loved it here and the food and landscape are still specific. Recently, they hired young untrained waiters and played 2000s
When we tried to order from the bar after waiting 30 minutes, the staff was rude. After ordering our third drink, the bartender abruptly cut us off and suggested we drink water instead. We weren't drunk at all; we were just enjoying ourselves. It felt condescending and controlling to dictate how and when we should drink. When I asked for another drink and expressed that we weren't interested in water, the bartender refused to serve us and instead poured water without our consent. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere. They claim to be a top spot, but it feels more like a neighborhood bar with a serious attitude problem. Unless they change how they treat customers, I would advise against visiting. There are plenty of other great bars in Portland—don't waste your time here.
The food was great, the service was perfect, but what really sold it is the atmosphere. It literally feels like a hole in the wall that you are going to escape from the world. If you go to Portland, you need to check this place.
A hidden gem on Congress. It's a basement lounge/bar but has some amazing cocktails and yummy bar eats. They also have a full meal menu during the dinner hours. Service is swift and friendly. The space is definitely darker and basement like but has lots of charm and plenty of elbow room. You also won't find it to be too loud or obnoxiously chaotic. I love this place so much.
