Contribuisci feedbackI had a great experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, though I would have liked slightly larger portions. Nonetheless, I left feeling satisfied. If you enjoy tequila, this spot is perfect for you! The service was outstanding—our server, Kuali'i, took excellent care of us. She was very attentive without being intrusive, always helpful, friendly, and had a bright smile! I couldn't have asked for more. It’s clear this place is a favorite, as it was bustling all night, even on a Thursday!
I was in the mood for a Margarita and some Mexican food for lunch today, so I decided to stop by The Matador. It was my first time lunching here, and I was pleasantly surprised. The place wasn't too busy, so we easily found seats at the bar. Our drinks arrived quickly, and the chips and salsa were just what I needed. My meal was fantastic!
However, after being overwhelmed by the garlic in the salsa, I found that I could barely taste anything else, except for the brewed, unsweetened iced tea with lemon. The service was quite pleasant, and the prices were mid-range, typical for most dinner spots in Portland. I had anticipated the Relleno to be a traditional stuffed chili that was batter-fried, so I was disappointed when it wasn't. Additionally, I prefer Cuban-style black beans, and the ones served were underwhelming and served al dente, which I found to be quite dull. I don't see myself rushing back to dine there anytime soon, but I might reconsider it in five or six years if the restaurant is still in business.
Fun, loud music, lots of energy! My brothers and I arrived around 9:30 at night on a weekend night. It took a minute to get our orders ordered but the chips and salsa made up for it. The salsa is absolutely delicious with cilantro has a very addicting taste. I ordered the flutas.... Amazingly big and super delicious. The waitress was attentive and very nice she advised that the kitchen was a little bit behind but like I said everything was worth the wait. I didn't order any drinks but they look very tasty judging the table next to mine. Bill was about average for the environment and type of place it was not overly priced but not cheap either.
Wow! We are visitors on a food tour of Portland and this place is overlooked on food blogs and Portland’s “best” lists. We stopped anyway and are incredibly grateful. Most places we stop, we’re in for a drink or two and usually some light dishes or apps. This place nailed it and did it in style. The room set up is great and the decor is very fun, including the big red curtains and accents to highlight their Matador roots. The drinks we got were phenomenal— at the moment, the seasonal watermelon margarita is worth coming it by itself! Otherwise, food was great, service was quick, and all were friendly. Would absolutely come back should we stop in Portland again!
