This is a lovely hotel with gorgeous, dramatic views of Positano and Praiano. Our rooms were beautiful and comfortable, although I do have to agree with one reviewer about the ant problem. I found an army of ants in the bathroom one day, but the staff did address the problem promptly. Breakfast is good but not great (their scrambled eggs aren't the best, even when made to order). We had lunch there one day, and it was superb some of the best pasta we had in Italy. Now for the important part: If you're looking to select a hotel in this area, there's one thing you need to keep in mind, and that's location. The Piccolo Sant'Andrea is located between Positano and Praiano. You cannot walk to either town; it's too far, and the road is narrow and perilous. There is nothing close to the hotel, not even a store where you can buy water. Yes, the hotel does have a convenient shuttle, but it does not run after about 7:30 PM, and taxis back to the hotel are exorbitant. If you have a car, driving into Positano or Praiano is very difficult because there's simply no parking. Definitely keep this in mind when choosing a hotel. If you want the beautiful views and you can work with the shuttle schedule, this is a great hotel; otherwise, try to find something in either Positano or Praiano. Service: 5
From the moment we arrived, and were greeted with open arms at the entrance, the staff at Piccolo Sant'Andrea offered a warm, truly first class experience. Everyone was extremely helpful from planning trips or suggesting restaurants to arranging a very convenient shuttle service to and from Praiano and Positano. We had a garden room which had a romantic, outdoor shower and secluded patio. Everything at the hotel from the spa to the pool to delicious breakfasts and the fine dining (all with amazing views) was beyond memorable. The wonderful staff and management really made us feel at home which was the cherry on top. The wonderful locale offers jaw-dropping vistas everywhere you look. We will recommend to friends and family and will definitely be visiting again! Service: 5
I’ve waited over a year to leave this review because we were waiting for our credit card company to clear the fraud refund, and for the dispute period to end. From the beginning there was a feeling that something was off in the hotel. The location has potential but the hotel is mismanaged and has an ant infestation. When we arrived for a 5 night stay, they took payment for the entire stay up front, which seemed a bit unusual but makes sense in hindsight. A staff person showed us to our room and when he opened the door it was unmade and a mess from previous guests. He took us back to the lobby and after a while took us to a different room. It was smaller and not as expected, but seemed ok and the staff said they’d see about transferring us to the original room once it was made up. One of the desk agents was supposed to book some reservations and day trips for us, we followed up with her a few times over the first night there and each time she seemed to have no idea about our previous conversations, even though she wrote notes in her notebook. The second morning we woke up there I felt something crawling on me and flicked it off. It was an ant, it was gross, but I thought it was just a single incident. I got up and was going to go to the restaurant to get coffee, and when I turned the bathroom light on I saw little black specs crawling all over the white tile floor. I freaked out and turned all of the lights on throughout the room and realized that the entire floor was covered in ants. There was a trail of them coming through the patio doors (which were closed and locked). The ants were everywhere all over our luggage and clothes, on the bed, everywhere. I called the front desk and they offered to have someone come and clean the room, but you can’t just clean an infestation. They told us “we are in wilderness, this is to be expected” and I could tell that this wasn’t the first time this had happened. I said we’d be leaving immediately and they needed to refund us for the remaining nights. They said that we could leave but they wouldn’t offer us any refund because it’s against their policy, and that we wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else to stay. The front desk person even said that they called other hotels and there were no rooms available for us. We packed up and went to the front desk. I again demanded a refund, and told them that if they didn’t provide one we would just report them for fraud. They eventually said they’d refund us for the remaining nights but would have to wait for the manager to come in and said they’d be in touch. We left without any refund to another hotel without confirmation that they’d even have space for us, we just had to get out of there right away. We went to the Grand Tritone and the only room available was their largest suite, but we were just happy to be anywhere but the Sant Andrea. When I contacted Sant Andrea over the next few days at first by email and a couple of times by phone they asked for our bank account information and said they would send a wire. We just wanted a refund to the card that we paid with, not a wire. They stopped responding to email and when I called they would ask me to wait and then I’d hear them talking in the background and they’d come back and tell me the manager wasn’t in and would call me back. We never received a call back and ultimately reported the transaction as fraud to our credit card company once we were home a week later. The credit card company refunded the entire transaction within a month of us getting home. I can’t imagine what we would have done if we didn’t have the ability to pay for another hotel stay at the same time as not having received any money back from the refund, and now I know that’s why they make you pay up front. I took videos but can’t upload them, so these are screenshots they barely capture the reality and feeling of having ants literally crawling all over you. Stay anywhere but here.
