The restaurant has an online menu (qr code at the table) that has listed the gf options, although some of the options listed gf had wheat or beer in the plate descriptions. I had to read through the plate descriptions to make sure that what I ordered was not incorrectly marked gf. Overall the food here tasted amazing and if you have a little risk, I think it is worth it. Another beautiful thing is that the servers are bilingual and so it is easier to ensure that the court you order does not have gluten.
Favourite food in Quito, eat here twice. My self (gluten free) and friend (gluten eater) both loved every visit. Friendly and helpful staff and a really delicious menu. All that is marked in English and Spanish makes it easy to eat here as a non-Spanish speaker. The GF options are plentiful (marked online menu, but not in person menu). The soups were certainly the star for me (they made me an empanada at our first visit when they were dead and said they could do mine in safe oil before other gluten food cooked). In any case, it is worth checking, although being aware that stairs are required to enter.
This place is known about gluten-free foods, and the server explains exactly what was / was not gluten-free (I.e. Empanadas are technically gluten-free, but are cross contaminated in the frit). They brought a free bread, which is Quinoa and Amaranth, which was delicious. I had soup and a salad, but the salad came on them with fried chips. When I asked about it and explained about the frit, he had no problem to take it back and replace it with a fresh salad without the chips. The atmosphere is elevated with an eclectic spin on traditional Ecuadorian food, but it is on the pricier side.
I chose this place because it was on this app as knowledgeable about vegan and keto friendly. I was hoping to have a nice meal with my family in Quito. The restaurant is located in a fun area overlooking a lively square in Quito. Staff assured me that they can take gluten free/Celiac. They went through their menu, which could be safe for me. They even knew about fried objects and cross-contamination. I ordered a rice dish with seafood. It looked and smells wonderful. I used my Nina to test the rice and it had tested “Gluten found.” I then ordered a salad with olive oil and it came with dressing over everything. Finally, I got a simple salad with oil on the side. It was a disappointing experience. Probably fine for gluten-free people, but definitely not Celia.
We struggled to find GF options while visiting Ecuador. My daughter is celiac found Miskay through the app (Thanks Eric). The food is traditional, but the flavour combinations are great. My son I aren’t GF and Miskay caters to both. Make them aware of your gluten restriction, and they explain everything. My daughter wanted something that wasn’t GF, and they adapted it for her. Definitely worth the stop whether you’re GF or not.
