I cannot fault the food and service here, the pizzas are wonderful and pasta is divine.however sitting in a restaurant on a Saturday night in silence as there is no music playing in the back ground and only 1 other table with patrons on it, does not make a fun atmosphere. We felt like we had to whisper because it was so quiet. in saying that, we went another time and yet again we were the only 1 of 2 tables taken and there was an old man playing a very very loud accordion. so loud, we could hardly hear ourselves talk.We have not been back, its a shame as we really loved the food there and service is good, however we are after ambience as well to complete our whole dining experience.
We stopped off at Ramsgate RSL for Sunday lunch and visited The Olive Leaf for the first time. It's a pleasant room and the maitre d, Cyril, was very pleasant and obliging. There were not a lot of people eating but enough to add some atmosphere. We decided on bruscetta to start. I have to say that it was the very best that we have ever had. The bread soft centred but crunchy. the topping was very tasty. So far so good., We both ordered pasta for main and my wife was very disappointed with her pumpkin ravioli ($26 for main size).. Some of the ravioli edges were hard and the dish was heated unevenly. We figured that it was microwaved from the frozen state. The sauce was very good. My penne with bolognese sauce ($26 for main) was a huge meal but it was very bland. The pasta was overcooked and the sauce was pretty flavourless. Limited wines are available by the glass.
It's rather unusual to find an Italian Pizza restaurant within a club, and this restaurant is a good addition to the Ramsgate RSL Club. It has an extensive menu, the pizzas are ample in size, and on certain nights there is live accordion music to dine by. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there is a good selection of wines. After lunch/dinner stroll downstairs to experience some quiet club ambience.
We've eaten there a few times now and sent our friends as well, needless to say they are all hooked on the food and the friendly staff. The variety and flavours are awesome and make it difficult to choose. We'll certainly be going back to try it all.
