I booked a table a few months ago and got a confirmation email, so assumed everything was in order. When we arrived we discovered the restaurant was in fact closed and being a busy Saturday night with an event going on in the town we were unable to find anywhere else to eat. A simple email to inform us of this change would have allowed us to book a table elsewhere in Hawes. I find it incredible and slightly cruel that this curtecy was not afforded us. Our room was pleasant and comfortable with nice views, but could maybe do with a bit of TLC. I enjoyed the fresh fruit and yoghurt selection at breakfast as I don't like a cooked meal. The toast was a bit burnt and dried out. My husband thought the cooked breakfast was ok but a bit dried out too. The girl who served us was lovely. The location of the hotel is excellent but parking during the day was a nightmare. It was a shame the lack of communication spoilt our stay.
My wife and I ate here recently. The restaurant has upmarket ambitions and by and large the food and service was good, however were slightly disappointed given the relatively high prices charged.
Up market fish restaurant. Crab cocktail starter good but could have had more oomph and a little difficult to eat in a V shaped cocktail glass. My wife had cod and lemon butter sauce which was excellent, as was my swordfish steak on crushed potatoes. The meal was spoilt by desert. No menu offered lemon pie, chocolate fondant or cheese. We both went for the fondant. It arrived, hot, a minute later had to have been out of a microwave. It was very disappointing. Very dry and no liquid centre. There was no cream or ice cream with it. When got the bill we discovered we had been charged £21 for the two they were not worth half that. A real shame
What a lovely place to stay. The building is an old Quaker’s meeting hall so is as you would expect from a very old building. The location is fab, handy for the car park and the high street. Now for the bar, modern stylish and classy at the same time. Great wine choices. It’s really nice to go walking across the moors then go to the room, shower and dress up because the bar is so nice you want to glam up a bit. The restaurant wow! Well I’ve been to some well known fish restaurants in the north that everybody goes on about well this beats them all. Gosh it was a nice break and whilst the walks were brilliant I remember that meal, the wine, the elegance and the cheese board!!!! well done to the team for working so hard, for taking the risk to invest when all the odds with C19 were against you. You can be very proud of what you have created in Hawes I just need to book again
The fabulous staff at 1668 managed to fit us in for the most fabulous dinner yesterday evening. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed the most stunning meal. Starting with mussels and scallops, mains of local lamb and chocolate brownie and cheeseboard dessert to follow, all of the best quality, served in lovely surroundings by wonderful staff. Absolutely superb! Couldn't fault it in any way. We will return.
