Venta La Higuera - Ronda

Our experience at this establishment was was not good at all. Our waitress was incredibly rude, we felt very rushed when placing our order, the food was less than ordinary and way over-priced for what it was. Strongly recommend you spend your money elsewhere on your visit to Ronda.

I decided to drop in for lunch on my way into Ronda. The young waiter spoke good English and brought a varied and interesting menu in English while I had a bottle of beer. I chose a mixed salad (which included Tuna, asparagus as well as the usual greens), followed by a venison stew in a rioja sauce (served with ratatouille and chips), both of which were plentiful and delicious. Two small glasses of house red wine washed the vension down and I finished off with cheescake and a cup of coffee. All told, 32 euro. Excellent value. As the restaurant is in a mountainous area, there's quite a bit of game, beef and pork on the menu and, I'm told, goat on occasion. Uncharacteristic for an inland restaurant, they have a decent selection of fish (as it's only an hour's drive to the coast).

From the moment we entered this packed restaurant we were treated very well and shown to a very nice table. The decor is very typical of this area but 'Hunting and Shooting ' orientated with beautiful trophy heads of wild deer and goat. The menu reflects this. Three of us ordered leg of goat and the other leg of lamb. They came as just that!!! A whole leg each, albeit a medium sized one! The meat fell off the bone and was really delicious. The waiter was very attentive before ordering and tried to push us to have the langoustine and other delights to start but we do not normally eat that much at lunchtime so passed on that. The wine list was good and well priced. There is plenty of parking and it is very close to Ronda. If one had to find fault it would be that it was quite noisy inside as the place was full but the Spanish are noisy anyway so you cannot get away from that really. We will definitely be returning although it is an hour from where we live and one has to think of the drink/drive thing.
