Because it's all about enjoying the place and the cicadas singing. The food is simple but good and typical -plus cheap. So basically everything we can expect from a place from this region. My hometown is very close and going back to saint guilhem made me fall in love once again with this village.
Having spent the afternoon exploring the streets of Saint Guilhelm we were ready to sit down and arrived before the restaurant was open. No problem: we were served drinks and olives in the patio to wait for our table. Dinner was served in an elegant dining room, the wine list was interesting and tempting. The menu offered a good array of local specialties. Dinner was excellent. Servive very good.Walking back through the sleeping village to our B&B was and easy 5 to 10 minutes walk.
We stayed at the hotel, Le Guillaume d 'Orange, which is fabolous! The restaurant, however, is a different story. It didn 't come as a surprise, though we had a mediocre experience here last year. But ! The other restaurants we would have chosen were closed. So we braved it, and hoped they had taken notice of the many bad reviews, and done something to fix it. But No! Efficiency is an unknown expression here! The service was friendly, but our waitress had absolutely NO experience. The meal lasted for three (3) hours. Everything took forever, and she promptly forgot every request. Obviously, the main problem is Chaos in the kitchen each course arrived at different times for each member of our party. The food was passable, but way too expensive. We pay the same for Gourmet food elsewhere. If there is a next time in St. Guilhem, we 'll eat anywhere else!
We were 6 adults with 2 kids and 1 trolley, we ate on the terrasse and we ordered the 20€ formule (plat dessert). Some had the piece of meat (bavette) which was excellent, the others had the fish that was also very good. The desserts were a chocolat fondant and tiramisu. Both very good although the tiramisu had too much mascarpone. The view is nice, the plate is very nice and the terrasse very enjoyable. The service is perfect, fast and friendly. Good place that deserves to be known and very good value for money.
