My husband then was tempted by the Cafe Gourmand - lovely coffee came with three slices of tart - Pear and Almond, Gooey Chocolate (like a lovely brownie) and Apple. I had a fruity tea - which came as loose tea in a very long tea bag which was draped over the side of the teapot. 2 and a half cups worth! It was lovely, very refreshing. The service is good and the restaurant immaculately clean.
I met a friend for a late lunch and the owner gave us a warm reception and very kindly prepared us a tartine even though it was quite late. I was however disappointed with the offering...half a quite dry demi baguette topped with tomato, generous portion of chopped chicken, and a little cheese which was grilled. Accompanied by a garnish of salad it would have been fine other than it was quite tasteless and rather steep at 9.30 euro's. The place is lovely however inside and has a warm friendly atmosphere. I would try it again but maybe for coffee and cake which all look homemade.
We have come here a couple of times for a piece of pastry and a cup of tea. The pastry has always been excellent and I am pretty sure that it is baked in house. This is also our favorite gourmet shop in town although their items are costly. My wife says that their olive oil is the best to be found in Saintes.
