The Ananda Bowl is wonderful as the Veggie Chicken Caesar Salad and the Mexican Salad/Bowl. I often add the grilled spicy veggie chicken protein option to their shells to make them a particularly decadent and satisfying meal. Her daal soup is legendary as the lemon tahini dressing for salads and bowls. And freshly baked vegan cookies, cakes and cakes! Still waiting for a vegan milkshake : Updated from the previous review on 2023 01 02
It was a great experience, many vegan options. The lentil soup was delicious.
I have come here quite a bit for both takeout and eat in. The ensalada Mexicana is my favorite but I’ve tried many dishes. The soups are very good and with the somosa is great, or soup and salad. The specials are tasty. The vegan neatloaf is a standard too. The vegan house made veggie burger is delicious. The cakes are all house made and so good. The curries are superb. They go through a lot of staff changes but I’ve always gotten friendly service. Updated from previous review on 2021-09-24
Ananda Fuara 10/19/19 I have been wanting to try this vegetarian spot for awhile. Walked down from Japan Town festival. Some open tables since I came at 4pm an hour after brunch shutdown. Did seat me a large table instead of next to rest room reluctantly. Only one waitress so the not so friendly bus boy took my order. With a full house it was hard for her to be too attentive. One table even walked up to cashier and asked if they needed to order there. Vegan options available for many items. Bowl of Dal starter $4.95. Thick spicy rich tasting. Thumbs up so a good add on. Ordered the Neatloaf dinner option $14.95 based on reviews instead of the sandwich. I was jonesing for some good mashed potatoes and gravy. Neatloaf was light and the sauce sweet. Certainly not as dense as a non vegan version. Potatoes a bit lukewarm but I liked the mushroom gravy and did not miss a butter substitute. They did brown them a bit on the outside. Also,.I did eat all my silver dollar sized lettuce and carrot salad!! Never was asked if everything was okay. Good thing they were. This is definitely a major comfort food cheat day.!! Not inexpensive so can't do this often but I will be back next time I'm in the city. Too full after main course but ordered dessert to go. Famous chocolate cake $4.95 She brought to table on plate. When I asked to go they swapped out with a smaller less attractive slice.
Like others, their Neatloaf dinner is what sells us at this place. I have a soft spot for companies that make their own vegan yields of meat instead of relying on mock products (not that it is something wrong with them! Dinner came with one side of vegetables and potatoes and gravy, all delicious. The Neatloaf was 100% DEE LISH. You have to order that. We also have their ravioli in marinara dish with seasonal vegetables in its delicate packaging. I appreciate Ananda looking for the freshest ingredients in their dishes and was happy with the amount of Ravioli we got in our order. Another delicious dish. Our meal would not be over without dessert and they serve a variety of vegan cakes and cakes. We went with their Cardamom Cake, who was a hit light with a kick to finish our meal. Even when we approached their closing times, we never felt rushed from them. In fact, another party was offered the dessert menu ten minutes after closing, which shows me that they put into trouble to ensure that customers are satisfied. Of course we would go if they needed us to close, but I appreciated this little gesture.
