We have booked a table for 7.30 and even though the service was a bit reserved initially, we soon felt welcome by our host. We were initially served with good port wine, and then a very good typical homemade starter (cheese and sausage with bread). We have both opted for a fish menu, so we were served a “goraz” (seabream) that was incredibly fresh and tasty, and was accompanied by potatoes and vegetables. When the cook, Sra Valentina, saw that we were very hungry, she quickly and kindly brought us more vegetables. The more time that passed, the owner treated us more kindly, and offered us his homemade liquour, which was strong but very tasty. We left the restaurant with big smiles on our faces, and very happy to have found this hidden gem in Flores.
I had excellent cheese and cold cuts, a baked fish with delicious potatoes, white wine from the Douro region. At the end of the meal I could have exploded but I felt it would have been outrageous to leave the smallest bit of food on my plate. Chef Valentina and her staff are warm people but extremely professional. Book in advance and let them know your preference (meat or fish): you will not be disappointed.
After reading earlier reviews of this restaurant on Trip Advisor, we made sure to have dinner here. Our meal here was a highlight of our fantastic stay on Flores. As previous reviewers have emphasized, you MUST make reservations here or you will be turned away. When making the reservation, we chose the fish, whole roasted cherne (wreckfish). Before the main dish we were served cheese and presunto, dressed tomatoes and probably the best garlic bread I have ever eaten. The roasted fish was delicious, my wife said it was the best fish she has ever had. The potatoes with it were also excellent, and the bottle of white wine from Sao Miguel was very nice. Then came a nice dessert and then complimentary after dinner drinks. The husband who runs the front of the house, provides really amazing service and his wife, (the fantastic cook) came out to meet us and make sure everything was ok. This restaurant has it all, food, service and atmosphere, so we were really shocked at how reasonable the bill was- less than 50EU for two people. Highly recommended and not to be missed if you are visiting Flores. One important point, this restaurant is in Fazenda Das Lajes, not near Santa Cruz as indicated on the map on trip advisor.
Amazing a must. Reserve because it’s a pre order. Everything is home grown and made. The fresh made bread is amazing. We had the fish. It was amazing. Very friendly and inviting.
