The staff is like family to me now and it's rare to find such a strong community connection in a grocery store. They offer a wide variety of foods, wines, cheeses, supplements, and body products, as well as delicious organic meals in their deli. If they don't have something I need, they are always willing to order it for me. I am sad to hear that some people haven't had the same wonderful experiences at Lois', but everyone deserves a second chance. Lois' is a special place with friendly people and I am happy to see it doing well in a world dominated by big box stores.
I really enjoy dining at this restaurant, even though I live in a different neighborhood and it's a little farther than other places in Portland. I still make the effort to come here because they always have exactly what I want and the staff is incredibly friendly.
I like to buy here instead of whole foods if I can. this is a small food business with a good selection of natural foods, flavors and chalks that they can buy in the mass, tons of organic weeping, and a large deli. there are several vegan sandwiches and salad options in deli and good coffee. I ordered a Thai spiced tofu sandwich with peanut sauce and fresh cauliflower and it was divine.
I really like this place. I live in south portland and have whole food right in portland (where I make my weekly shopping opportunities) but every time in a place where whole foods has nothing I'm looking for, and I call lois' and they always have it!
First off I'd like to say that I am a personal friend of Lois and therefore my bias is clear. But I think it's almost at the level of petty that a person could overlook a place like Lois' without at least having a conversation with Lois herself. Knowing the store and Lois for many years I know that she slaves for that store every day of the week and if it is humanly possible she will be there to talk with anyone about anything concerning natural living. She is basically one of the founding fathers of Natural Foods beginning over twenty-five years ago working at the Good Day Market co-op in Portland. So, I ask anyone who has had a negative experience at Lois' to, like this website says, make an effort to talk to the person who has provided people with this place. Cheers
