Was visiting family in NW LA which is not a vegan friendly area. This was a great place to stock up on supplies i.e. tofurky, organic items. Stopping here gave me something substantive to eat over the weekend. They had a deli, but the soy cheese wasn't vegan.
Though Sunshine has a deli/cafe in back, I rarely eat there as a local. As other reviewers have noted, the atmosphere is not really conducive to dining in, although they do have good soup, and occasionally a raw vegan salad, complete with nuts, will pop up in the deli case, though it is not something one can find with any regularity. It is really best for take-out, and one might have to peruse the aisles to round out the vegan offerings in the deli/cafe. On the grocery side, sometimes they are annoyingly out of the things I buy regularly. Fresh organic produce comes but once a week, Thursday, and runs out within a few days, but sometimes fruit and salad items persist. Their health and beauty section is very extensive, and they are probably the only place in town with vegan/natural cosmetics, with reasonable, if not cheap, prices. Basically, if you're a vegan just passing through town, I would recommend getting take out and a couple of other foods from the grocery section and having a picnic somewhere else.
The cafe is in back of a fairly disorganized health food store. it's fabulous that this place even exists around here, but all the activity from the retail area made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal. the food (i had lentil soup) was fantastic, though the vegan options are slim. good for a quick bite or carry-out, but i wouldn't recommend sitting and eating there.
Nice staff, tasty cafe and good deals. Definitely recommended to stock up on vegan healthy goodies, and grab a bite to eat at the cafe.
