We went on an exam day so the menu wasn't posted. 12 euros only included an apero, Starter of asparagus, main of steak flambé cooked to perfection and so tender. Glass of wine, cheese course and profiteroles followed by coffee. Excellent service. Highly recommend.
This restaurant is located in the Lycee Hotelier Quercy-Perigord where you are served by students and the food is cooked by students. Sounds daunting....not in the least. This is quality food prepared to a high standard and of course their highly professional teachers are on hand to ensure all runs smoothly. It is mind bogglingly good value and the wines (a choice of 4 reds and 4 whites on the day we went) are excellent and soooo much cheaper than in a normal restaurant. The Fronton from Le Roc was excellent and only 13 euros!!! We were served an amuse bouche of Ox Cheek in jelly and a light mustard sauce with trimmings which was really tender and tasty. This was followed by white asparagus in a maltaise sauce (hollandaise mixed with blood orange juice) which was delicious. Main course was steak tartare, a generous portion of fine steak, lightly flavoured with French fries. The only criticism was that the chips were nicely coloured but not crisp enough. Desert was a brandy snap like basket with gariguettes, cream and a light nutty ice cream. Very refreshing and beautifully presented. An excellent finish to the meal. Our young waiter was well presented and professional. He spoke good English and you could tell he was desperate to try it out. In the end we compromised and spoke a bit of each language. Table cloths, napkins and flowers all as in a good restaurant. Nice view too over the edge of town to the hills beyond. And the damage ....17 euros each for the meal! You do need to book and you can check the menus out in advance on-line. For good food and wine and a different experience look no further. It 's a fun place to take guests over from the UK and good to see the Hotel and Restaurant trade taken seriously and viewed as a real career not a fill in job.
The students of the Lycée hotelier offer several services in term time- lunches and dinners. The menu is published online ahead of time. Under the eagle eye of their supervisors, the students serve and cook for clients- mostly from the local area. The meals are great value (around Eur 17 for a 3 course meal) and wine is available for purchase. On our most recent visit, the aperitif and a glass of very pleasant local wine were included in the price.
In march two visits. Both times very positive. Service by students. Of course they have to learn but all in all it went very well. Good quality of food and low prices make it tempting to return!
This restaurant deserves more attention by tourists. It is run by a well known, in the Perigord Quercy, lycée hôtelier. Nearly all is prepared and organised by the students, under supervision. They give great quality in food and service. Amazing variety with a very good quality/price relation. The students are eager to learn and are very friendly. They do it by the book! Menu or carte, it is the same price!
