With our local guide, we decided to stop at this small, unassuming road side soda on our drive from Guayabo National Monument to Irazu volcano. We are so glad we did this might have been our favorite meal during our two weeks in Costa Rica. Not sure if there was even a menu; our guide helped us order casado for all. If you have not had casado, translated as marriage, it is a typical Costa Rican meal that offers a complete plate. This one started with small bowl of delicious soup and ended with a small bowl of fresh fruit. The plate itself had beans, rice, fried plantains, fried local Turrialba cheese, hearts of palm, and a protein of choice. The stewed beef was incredibly tender and tasty. As with many typico meals, it included fresh fruit juice and the pineapple/guava flavor was delicious. And it was incredibly inexpensive.
