Perfect for winter season and not too bad when mood strike on other. Will always comeback for a familiar comfort taste. Frequently visiting their North York branch. The one on Spadina is easier after moving around the area.
The service at this restaurant is very friendly and the food is delicious! We shared a large squid dish that was fantastic. We will definitely be coming back!
A Hidden Gem! I was disappointed that I had to travel 20 minutes to get my fix at the Owl of Minerva near North York Centre, but to my surprise, I found out there was another location downtown. After a bit of searching, I finally found it tucked away on Spadina. While the menu is similar to the North York location, the popular combo of $20 for an entree and 5 beers or a bottle of soju can only be done with three dishes: spicy chicken, spicy pork, and bulgogi. They also offer all the Korean food standards like bibimbap and gamjatan. The owners, a lovely couple, make you feel right at home. They even gave our large group 15% off coupons for our next visit. The downtown location is a great spot to enjoy Korean food, socialize, and grab some cheap drinks before heading to a bar or club for the night.
I recently tried Korean spicy rice cakes at this restaurant. They served the rice cakes in two different styles: tube-shaped and sliced. I personally preferred the sliced version as it was easier to eat. The sauce they were tossed in was spicy yet sweet, and there were also fish cakes mixed in. The kimchi pancakes were especially tasty. When we were deciding between seafood pancakes and kimchi pancakes, the server recommended the kimchi pancakes, which were delicious. Overall, it was a yummy experience.
The Owl of Minerva franchise has never let me down. Featuring great tasting Korean food for a great place, it's definitely one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Toronto. For the purposes of this review I'll talk about the Owl of Minerva at Dragon City Shopping Mall. The service here was great, our server was always on hand and asking us if we needed anything. Very friendly staff. Owl of Minerva restaurants are not particularly upscale so if you're looking for a fancy place I would not recommend it. The low price definitely reflects in the decor, but the food is great and the portions are large.
