Contribuisci feedbackI spent three days in Ushuaia in the end of December 2016. This is an expensive place to visit. I typically paid 400-600 pesos for each meal in restaurants along Av. San Martin, the main street of the town. Lomitos Martinica is an exception. It is located near the end of San Martin, between Antártida Argentina and Yaganes, next to the Bamboo restaurant. It is easy to miss because the entrance is small. There is hardly any ambience to talk about. It is just a place to eat but the food is great and very affordable. Just give you an idea. A salad is 60-90 pesos, empanadas 30 pesos (the same as in a supermarket), porcíon de vacío from the grill is 160 pesos (300 pesos for a kilo!), pastas 85 to 105 pesos. And the sandwiches. Sándwich de lomo 140 pesos, sandwich de suprema 120 pesos. You can watch your sandwich being made while sipping beer at the counter in front of the grill. I had a Sándwich de lomo. It was a big piece of meat, top with eggs, grilled right in front of you. Then the vegs. All stuffed in a submarine bread. It was a full meal, it tasted great and it was HUGE! I am a 180 lbs guy with good apatite but I could hardly finish it. I also tried their pasta in another meal and enjoyed it. If you want to save some money for the expensive boat tours of Ushuaia, I strongly recommend Martinica.
Instructions:Step 1 - go here and grab a seat at the bar if you can. You'll probably need to squeeze past the steady queue of locals ordering food to take away.Step 2 - make contact with one of the chefs and look at the menu. Grab a beer from the fridge behind you. The portions are enormous and whislt there are a few things on the menu, you should really try the milanesa sandwich - probably between 2 people unless you've missed your last meal.Step 3 - watch the chefs simple dishes being made right in front of you. Enjoy!(We shared a milanesa sandwich and a litre bottle of beer - the most filling and economical meal we've had in travelling for a month in Argentina!)
For ushuaia this is considered cheap food and it is, compared to the crazy expensive restaurants in this town.Don't expect any luxury, but do expect tasty lomitos, the sandwiches containing beef fillet, ham, cheese and tomato. I am definitely having all my lunches here, while in town.
