I normally don't like going to Chinese restaurants after going so much, and for every single occasion since I was a child haha) but if I had to pick, Koon Bo would be one of the top places. They make a very good shredded chicken and jellyfish ? not sure of the English name). It gets quite busy in here and is very cramped. Would recommend making a reservation. Parking can be quite tight in the parking lot, but if you're lucky you can find free street parking around this area.
There were lots of customers waiting for the table at entrance. Luckily we had a reservation and we can skip the queue. *Highly recommend for table reservation* the food is delicious and the portion is big enough. Definitely I will come again. *Like*
Koon Bo is one of those Chinese restaurants that you would like to go with a bigger group of, at least 8 or 10 people. The dishes here are of great quality and big portion, but also on the pricier side. So it makes sense to have more people in order to try more different dishes. The place is known for a few dishes that you have to order 24 hours in advance, such as the Winter Melon Soup, which is labour intensive, and the Fried Squab, as they only use the freshest birds that are somewhat limited in quantity.
Not going to bother trying to translate the names to English but honestly everything we had was bomb.<br/ <br/ I'm Chinese and this is honestly one of the best Chinese restaurants in vancouver. Place isn't clean and upscale mind you but they really do their dishes very well. <br/ <br/ Best highlight is the tofu ball dish. Amazing fried light and flakey outer coating that wrapped around a tofu mix that has some texture to it. The pork that came with the dish in the fried wonton skin bowl was super delicious too.<br/ <br/ Another MUST order is the shredded chicken with fried wonton strips, sesame seeds and oil, and sour pickled veggies. Foodgasm.<br/ <br/ Loved everything here. Wish the place was cleaner though. However that's not going to stop me from coming back!
This place has got to be one of the best and underappreciated restaurants out there. It's situated in an unassuming complex on Fraser with a mix of other retailers. The shopfront is not anything spectacular. Actually, it's a bit run down, both outside and inside. But wow. The food. <br/ <br/ Food/Drink: I recently had a gathering there so we ordered quite a bit of food. Would recommend the Shredded Chicken Salad, the Wintermelon soup, Tapioca pudding (both these must be pre-ordered), Honey Garlic Pork Chops with Tofu, and the Peatips. Get your appetites ready. Definitely worth a try! <br/ <br/ Ambience: As I said, it's just a really unpretentious place to have good food with a table full of good friends/family. But it gets pretty packed so come early. <br/ <br/ WORD OF CAUTION: cash and visa place only. <br/ <br/ Service: Standard chinese restaurant service. However, if you will preorder anything, look for Wing. He's awesome to talk to, super efficient and advices you on how much to order for your group. <br/ <br/ Transport: Take the 41 Joyce Station bus and stop at Fraser. It's just across the street.
