I stock up everytime I visit Vancouver! Excellent selection of Greek import foods and decent prices. The prepared food and dessert counter offer many delicious selections; all authentic Greek flavours and some with a new twist! From cold meats, cheeses and olives; some are hard to find anywhere else. (The lemon potatoes and grilled veggie sandwich are my favourite! Friendly, helpful staff make the experience most enjoyable.
I worked here for 4 months on a work holiday - the staff are beautiful people, authentic and down to earth although they may seem rough initially- food is what you'd expect from a Middle Aged Greek nona- goddam delicious, huge portions and ridiculously cheap- but it's actually an amazing Sri Lankan woman out the back- sharpest tongue on her and harder working than a majority of men- so make sure you give her a nod if you see her putting out the food-the Lamb dinner especially- baclava like no other place on earth-huge slice for 2,50 don't go past it. Best selection of cured meats, cheeses and Greek chocolates too!! Come here before heading to van island
I'm a frequent shopper at the Parthenon on Broadway, mostly to put together a meal with a huge Greek Salad at the centre. The best feta is Dodonis; costs a bit more, but after you try it, you'll only order Dodonis. Pitted Kalamatta black olives are available, making it possible to let the feta and Kalamatta teeter on a flavour competition. We always add a large container of Babaganoosh to our Greek Salad meal and end with Baklava triangles. The best rice pudding in town is sold at the Parthenon, but they sell fast.
There is a delightful collection of Greek businesses in this area of Kitsilano. The Parthenon is our favourite for picking up deli items for lunches. It has a great selection of baked goods, cheeses, cold cuts, olives, oils, salads, and Greek specialties. We recently ate in the cute sit-down area and had an excellent meal of paninis with salad (greek or tabouli) for ~$8 and spinach pie with salad for ~$6. With great quality and reasonable prices, this place is hard to beat.
