Contribuisci feedbackThis restaurant use to be called Samosa Garden at one time. It is now called Star Anise Restaurant at 3502 Kingsway, Vancouver. This was the first time I was here for dim sum and is it was really good and the service was great. The price of the dim sum is $ 2.98 Alot of families come here for lunch. I plan to come back for lunch again , I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Samosa Garden died a slow indian buffet death and is now a Hong Kong style chines restaurant. We tried then once and after their lost our order and a 45 minute wait we left
There were 4 diners, other than the two of us at around 6:00 pm I counted five staff members. The vegetable Pakora appetizer came overdone and did not taste very good.My wife ordered the butter chicken ( okay according to her but not remarkable) and I ordered the Goat curry. We also orderd rice for two.The butter chicken arrived ten to fifteen minutes before the Goat curry and the Naan bread. The rice had been forgotten. The Goat curry was not good - very runny / watery and extra spicy ( despite our asking the server to ensure that it was mild)When I gave our feedback, I was told that the Japanese cook they had employed had left in the past couple of weeks to return to Japan, and the replacement had his own recipes. This prices are cheap - 10.00 for a meal with Naan bread, and it certainly used to be excellent. Not today. The parking spaces are really small, so there is a good chance of some door dings here.
$10 for lunch is not bad if you like east Indian food. They have the favorites like butter chicken, chicken marsala, few other curry dishes. Good quality but not a lot of variety.
Non-existence service. The hostess/server basically ignore you after she takes you to the table. Does not bother to give you menus, ask you for drinks, ANYTHING. I was left sitting on my own for 5 mins (there's only 2 other tables at the time) before she came by to give me a menu and then walk off to thin air. Not appearing or just stare into thin-air ignoring my gestures. I got frustrated and just walk up to help myself to the buffet. Food is OK, but nothing to talk about. The tandoori chicken is mushy, and makes me wonder if the meat itself has gone bad already. Definitely will not go again even if this is the last place serving Indian food.
