We also picked a bottle of white from the Germany/Austria centric wine menu....While the separate dishes tasted good and were generally well prepared, they had been too far on the smaller size end. If we didn’t had the bread basket refilled twice, we would have left hungry which never happened to me before in a restaurant that aspires to do fancy dining. For a total of 213 EUR for a two person dinner is severely overpriced. When it came to settling the bill the waiter had us badly surprised telling us that they don’t accept credit cards. There wasn’t any hint of that on their website nor did the person who took the reservation tell us about this. Fortunately we were able to scramble enough cash together to settle the bill, but we left with the feeling that this joint tries to cheapskate its way into “fine dining” saving both on food on the plates and credit card fees. Seriously, if you put up those prices then do your part, dish out enough food to not leave hungry, and accept credit cards!
79° is a specila place. Small menu but excellent. You can change between the menus. Unfortunately it is a little bit loud for a conversation if you sit in the middle of the room. Nice service
We had been planning a visit to this restaurant for a while, and what can I say... we should have come earlier! We arrived without booking (which I wouldn't recommend because the place is quite small, although if the weather is warm enough they have...a lovely back garden and can also set some tables in Louisenstraße . We were lucky and we got a table. There was a large group, which seemed to have a very good time, and 2 additional parties of 4. The service was friendly, smooth, and extremely fast. The deco was modern but colourful and cosy. The food was amazing. We had a lovely present from the kitchen, a thai green curry soup with mango, delicate and spicy at the same time. As starters we had the scallops with pork belly and a veal dish which somewhat resembled vitello tonnato, but the sauce was a vey fine sauce tartare with a hint of horseradish.Great. The scallops were also cooked to perfection. I then had mushroom risotto: the flavours were amazing, and there was a light parmesan mousse to blend it, the rice was a tiny bit too al dente for me, but I know that views differ on this point. My husband had the steak (probably cooked at 79°C? , which he loved, and this came further accompanied by some melt-in-the-mouth braised beef. We couldn't resist sharing a dessert, a peach melba with 79° twist: a lovely custard and delicious berry mousse. With wine, beer, and water, this fantastic dinner came out at 95 Euros. Worth every penny! We will definitely be back!
