The first time, we thought fair enough, we came at 7pm and it was pretty busy. The second time, we saw 3 locals enter just before us, but when we looked inside the restaurant was otherwise pretty empty. Same response from the Lady- We are full. We asked how long we could expect until there was a table free, and she told us, Very long time. We were pretty disheartened, but we had heard such good things about this restaurant from one of the temple staff, that we tried a final time. We made sure to come in just after opening, and there was only one person in the entire restaurant, sitting at the bar. The moment the old lady saw us she pointed at the sign and turned us away. Obviously we are not welcome because we 're foreign, and I can promise you we made every effort to be polite on all three occasions. So in summary, don 't bother if you 're a gaijin like us- follow the road north and give your business to the izakaya up the road called Ima-chan instead, who was a very kind and happy man.
One of the cheapest most filling meals I've had in 4 weeks in Japan, amazing gyoza and oyakodon! Highly recommended!
I saw many reviews about gaijin discrimination and I was worried about.. I make my friend call Japanese at first and ask about a table, they say it was full.. they will call when get some spot available. After a while they call and we get in. The places is extremely small and easily gets full with locals, food is delicious and surprisingly they have and amazing amount of food available. We order a lot we skip lunch and the amount of food was really big. Gyusuji and maguro hoho outstanding even that give as some nigiris as a service fro. The house. At the end we paid less Than 5k. Such a meal and cheap, I hardly recomendable this place but make your reservation first
Great food! great service! all local, large hidden gem. Thank you!
We had great udon noodels and deep fried vegetables. the portions were large and we got spicy cucumber over it from the cook, it was definitiv one of the best meal times in japan at a very good price. the local eats there and it felt really authentic. the restaurant is quite small, we went early when it was still empty, it didn't seem like they could reserve a table there. I guess that's why some complained here, but if it's full, it's full. from hygienically visible it is a bit borderline, but it has not disturbed us.
