The other, The Yew Tree, quoted a similar figure for ten items from a selection on a buffet menu. The menu had a variety of options, hot and cold, with many sounding very tempting indeed. The chef was willing to accommodate our requirements (eg, making some of the sausage rolls with a vegan filling and others with meat). The slow-roast pork belly was sublime, many items were delicious, and there were plenty of comments of how good the buffet was. Combine that with a truly charming pub with fine ale, and the day was a success. Thanks to Gemma for her great service.
Kids enjoyed the play equipment while we sat in the beer garden with drinks and chips. After a few hours the stone fired homemade pizza hut opened so we decided to stay for dinner friendly and helpful staff, all in all a lovely time.
First of all I need to correct the previous awful review. It clearly cannot have related to the Yew Tree Chalvington but the same name establishment in Arlington as none of what was said is anything to do with Chalvington. On the day we couldn't fault the food, big portion size and service. But, as a local and previous visitor to the Yew Tree it's such a shame that the original bar and later conservatory couldn't be used. Eating in the marquee is all very well but on the day of our visit it was very windy and quite cold with a big draught blowing through so the food also got cold pretty quickly. Also, the loos were limited to the portacabin type structure out back. No problem with that but the access staircase is very steep and must surely be an issue for those such as my wife who has mobility problems. Lastly, the rattan garden chairs used in the marquee are too low for comfortable dining. Would I return for a meal? Only if the bar or conservatory were open, otherwise no, so four stars.
Lovely food and attentive service. Sunday roast at its best in a country pub setting with log fire. Speedy service and easy parking.
Great traditional country pub. Very warm welcome, excellent food and exceptionally cosy. Lovely staff as well. Will be going again soon
