It was hard to enjoy our meal with the loud, aggressive laughter and swearing coming from nearby tables. While we could have notified the staff, we didn't feel it was our responsibility to manage their customers. The language being used was easily overheard, and we didn't want to cause a scene. It seems that perhaps this is the type of clientele the restaurant is aiming for now, despite there being families dining there and the higher prices suggesting a more upscale establishment. We quickly finished our meal, skipped dessert, and left. It might have just been bad luck, but if you visit, consider dining indoors instead.
Came for lunch without a reservation and were immediately given a table in the pretty restaurant area. Great Fish Chips and Pizza, plenty of choices for beer, lager, cider, wine, spirits and softs. Great food, fab service, warm welcome, pretty village setting.
Not as good as it used to be! We both had the Steak which was OK, but the Pepper Sauce was a tad on the runny side. What was somewhat disappointing was that we were not asked during the course of the meal if ...everything was ok... or ...more drinks... Also, when the meal arrived, we not asked if we wanted mustard, vinegar, etc.. This might seem a little over critical, but the place was not that busy, but the staff were pleasant enough. We were charged for the Pepper Sauce, although it had not been ordered, we assumed it came as 'standard '. This was deducted from the final bill. Their website has also been changed (still has the incorrect spelling of Faringdon though) and the booking system is not as easy.
Had a lovely Sunday roast here , Roast beef for him and I had the Pumpkin and Mushroom Wellington with Stilton . Both came with all the trimmings and cauliflower cheese. Sticky toffee pudding and Coffee Crème Brûlée for pud , equally tasty. Great service and a lovely traditional old pub.
We had been to another pub near here whose kitchen we discovered shut at 7.45pm! As it was a birthday celebration and we had 6 people and 4 dogs, we were wary who could have us. The Clanfield Tavern were extremely accommodating, lovely hosts and served us a delicious meal even though they had 50plus bikers visiting that evening, unlike the other riverside pub down the road, they were extremely accommodating and we will definitely be returning
