The Hughes Family Wines - Western Cape

This was one of the most special tasting experiences I have ever been lucky enough to go to. Billy is the loveliest man and his wines are exceptional! He is very passionate about what he does and managed to catch us with a few blind tastings and make us all laugh. For a proper tasting experience on a working farm, Hughes are top notch!

Nativo Wines in the Swartland, also known as The Hughes Family Wines is my 155th wine farm visit in South Africa. Nativo means “native” in Spanish and so this is their methodology, their wine is as native and natural to the land as possible – organic and biodynamic. A couple of Sundays ago we set off, out of town, to hopefully find somewhere nice to have lunch and to get some wine tasting in. Erroneously we assumed that Nativo wines is just open on a Sunday! Luckily for us Billy was there despite the fact that there was no wine tasting. He generously accommodated us.
